Carbon Ambassadors

Our four carbon ambassadors, Leon, Serena, Sophie and Vincent have been busy since their training day at Walton Girls' High School.  They take weekly measurements of our electricity c
onsumption; they have carried out energy audits for the main areas of the school; they have written an action plan so that we can save electricity and they carried out a whole school assembly to tell everyone what they are doing and why and how everyone needs to get involved.  Their task is to save 10% of our electricity costs in the first year.

Showing their PowerPoint which Leon had written and which was fabulous!

Questions being asked and everyone committed to helping the
LAC's (Lincoln Ambassadors of Carbon).

Watch this space for more information!

Mini Commonwealth Games

As part of our collaboration with Inspire+, children in year 3 have an annual opportunity to attend the Mini Olympic (renamed Mini Commonwealth for this year only) games held at The Meres in Grantham.  The event is now huge with over 30 schools attending plus Olympic Champions and other local athletes.

Our Y3's wore the school PE kit and were accompanied by our Bronze Sports Ambassadors Jessamy and Amy who wore their Inspire+ kit.

Just arrived and demonstrating our banner for our Commonwealth country and our Flame made by the Bronze Ambassadors.

A chance to get autographs for Riley from Sam Ruddock - a para-olympian who came to school a few weeks ago - see Mrs Chadwick's PE blog!

Playing blind football - not so easy because we really need to listen for the bell in the ball!

Some sort of table tennis - everyone watching and fingers crossed!

Goal scoring - really need to concentrate!

Tag rugby - getting ready!

Wheelchair sprint - not sure about this!  We have a set of 10 wheelchairs coming to school in the next year for a sports club so watch this space!

The closing ceremony - sky jumpers.

This was brilliant because it really linked to our current science topic on Forces!

A great day was had by all - thanks to Mrs Barnes and Mrs Lamb and all the parents who transported the children - we couldn't do this without your support!

School Sleepover

Whole school sleepover last night - 69 (out of 85) children sleeping overnight in order to raise money for the school.  Everyone was well behaved and had a brilliant time.  I was amazed by the reception children who stayed - they were very independent and formed a little group around their tablets to play and chat!

We turned lights off at 11pm but final settle down by some wasn't until 1am!

Some Y6 children were up by 5.15am therefore Mrs Marshall was up at the same time!

Early morning sunshine at 5.45am - the majority are still asleep!

I couldn't do this without the helpers and thanks to Irena Bravo, David Dunbar, Nicola James, Pamela Kearsley, Jules Middleditch, Deborah Millar, Ian Robinson, Chantal Walker and Jayne Wright!
PS I washed the tea towels we used and we used 17!

Women's Institute - Inspiring Women Day

The WI are celebrating 100 years since it's inception next year and as part of this a baton is being passed from one WI to another.  It was Marston's turn last Wednesday and we became involved in their celebrations.  The WI used to meet in the school and they lent us all their old minute books so we could put these on a display.  The whole school visited their event and the WI made the children a special WI cup cake each.  We spent time in school finding out about the WI and Inspiring Women - Class 3's blog has some more information on this.

Waiting for the arrival of the Baton - we had put up bunting to celebrate!

It's here - in a decorated bicycle basket!

Great view of the school!

Washing - the way it used to be done!

It's hard work this mangling!

Sewing!

Looking at garden produce and eating strawberries!

The Baton leaves to its next WI - a tea dance!

We all learnt so much and enjoyed being a part of the community!
