Celebrations 7/2/2014

We had a lot to celebrate this week!  Our weekly celebrations assembly started with a visitor - Debbie, Caythorpe's Beaver Leader.  She came to tell us more about Beavers but in particular to celebrate Jasper (Y3) earning his Bronze Beaver Badge - the highest you can get!  Jasper put on his Beaver sweatshirt to show us his badges and following today his mum will have a few more to sew on!  Well done Jasper - I am sure you will work for your Silver Badge when you move onto Cubs.

Special Bears - Benji (R) and Harry (Y1) for coming up with qualities that they would like to give a new baby - Benji wants the baby to have magical qualities and Harry wants the baby to have soothing qualities - both linked to our work in RE.

Class 2 - Kayley (Y3) for being a fabulous and enthusiastic member of our music lessons.  Hannah (Y4) for her beautiful work on Aboriginal painting.  She has also earned two headteacher stickers for this work!

Small Schools Swim Gala - the children who came first, second or third received an individual certificate....

...and the rest received a group certificiate.
Although we only came fifth this was an excellent result because we didn't have any entries for a few of the races and we were really pleased with the outcome.  Well done!!!

Swim Gala morning

It's that time of year again and it was Grantham's school swim gala day.  Mrs Chadwick took loads of swimmers to the pool and the children that remained behind had a baking morning with Mrs Kearsley!  Lot's of maths work, team work and delicious eating!

Decorating our made cakes - I had to help and I notice Vincent is licking his finger in the background!!  Hope you enjoyed your cakes Ethan!

A selection of finished cakes - the theme was animals - what type can you spot?

Hannah's cake - she said it was a duck and I thought it looked like a duck-billed platypus (relates to our Australian topic) - whatever - it looked good enough to eat!

Megan made one specially for me - thank you Megan - it was fabulous!

Thank you Mrs Kearsley for organising this - baking with 40 children is quite a challenge
and the school smelt lovely!

Swim Gala - we had excellent results and these will be posted on Mrs Chadwick's PE blog so please visit to check it out.

Chinese New Year Day in school

It was our Chinese New Day in School today and the whole day was spent off curriculum.  We found out lots of information about what Chinese New Year actually means - please see individual class blogs for what was done in each class.

We were especially priviledged to have Mrs Leong, Elise and Carise Khoo's grandma (a teacher) visit us from Singapore to carry out an assembly for us.  We learnt all about what Chinese New Year means, what clothes are worn, what a 'reunion dinner' is' what gifts are given, some Chinese words to learn and we also had some Chinese food and tea to taste!

Mrs Leong explaining about Chinese New Year.

Mrs Leong showing us a Chinese fan that she bought on a visit to China.

Class 2 showing some of their Chinese New Year Horses that they have made!

Thank you Mrs Leong and Mrs Khoo for organising the afternoon for us!
