Sarah Outen

We have (as a school) been following the adventures of explorer Sarah Outen.  Sarah rowed, cycled and kyaked around the world and this resulted in our Year 6 children going to London in December to welcome her back.  Last year we had a satellite phone call from her in one of our assemblies and several children emailed her with questions and were replied to.

Sarah visited us today and because we the last school of the morning we got to listen and ask questions of her for 40 minutes - other schools got 15 minutes.

She told us why and how she decided to explore, the people she met along the way and experiences she had - all accompanied by pictures.

Her talk was inspirational - 'Just do it' and I (once again had tears in my eyes).

Every child in the school was totally absorbed for all the time - even the reception children.

We have paid for the Y6 children (who greeted her back in December) to attend an evening with Sarah at Walton Girls' High School on Monday 29th February.  Several other children were also inspired by her talk and will also attend.

Whole school - celebrating with Sarah

Sarah with one of the people she met on her travels who gave up 5 weeks to travel from where he lived (on a bike) to Bejing - some 4000 kilometres!

Thank you Sarah!

Holly Y3 - I need to work on keeping it on my ankle - it's not so easy!

KS2 visit to Lincoln University - Carol Anne Duffy

We were very privileged on Thursday to be able to attend Lincoln University to hear Dame Carol Anne Duffy perform (children's laureate).  We expected her to read her latest book 'Princesses' Blankets' and everyone was blown away by the performance.  She didn't just read the book she had a musician supporting her on the recorder and other 'easy' instruments'.

All the children (and staff!) were fascinated by the whole experience.  Mrs Chadwick's blog explains better than I can because I wasn't able to attend (much to my disappointment:)

I cannot add any photos to this blog BUT please visit Mrs Chadwick's blog (Class 3) to view these.
