Mischief Night Party!

This was our first ever Mischief Night party - organised by Friends of Marston School (FOMS) and the teaching staff.

Our helpers - including their children!  We didn't just have witches
we had a huge range of costumes!

Throwing hopes over the moving witch!

Our very lovely Darcy's mum - although you wouldn't think it from this photo!

Our responsible chair of governors!!!

Scary face painting done by our PGCE student Miss Roe!
She is not as scary as she looks!

Willfy - our 3 year old winner of the best boy costume!!!

William investigating his prize!

Reverend Lilian with her granddaughter Tasha!

We had competitions for the best costume (boy - Willfy and girl - Brooke), the best dancer (boy - Harry and girl - Gracie), the team broomstick relay, pass the hand and sleeping monsters.

There were activities - doughnut in the door, feely box, decorating scary biscuits, colouring and throwing the beanbag into the pumpkin.

We had food - hot dogs, butternut soup and hot chocolate with marshmallows.  Everyone got a spooky cup cake to take home - if they got that far and weren't eaten first!

We had a really great time and this will become a regular event!

Harvest Festival

Our Harvest Festival took place on Friday 17th October at our village Church.  We sang beautifully and there was an excellent attendance by parents and grandparents.  We started by presenting our produce to Reverend Lilian.

Class 1 sang and signed 'Thank You Lord'.  Mrs Sutcliffe would have been really proud of you - she wasn't there because she was on a paediatric first aid course.

Class 2 sang a very provoking song which contrasted those of us who have water and those of us who don't - 'I turn on the tap/I walk to the stream'.  They followed this with information about people who don't have easy access to water like we do.

Class 3 sang 'Summer is acummin in' and then recited their poems based on Harvest.

We all sang Michaelmas Daisies, The Sharing Bread and Harvest for the World.

Kingswood 2014 2

Camp fire enjoyment!

Starting Jacob's Ladder - all harnessed up and ready to go!
Getting higher...

...and higher!  Several children got right to the top!

One more to go!

It wasn't all about activities - the kids made their own entertainment - in this one - pulling off socks with teeth!  Bearing in mind how dirty and smelly everyone got, I would not to do this!

Hugging a tree before Bushcraft!

Stu (or the lady with a beard as the kids nicknamed him - why, I don't know!), instructing us about safe plants to eat, plants to use as medication and plants that are dangerous to humans.  The kids were enthralled and talked about it for hours afterwards!

As part of Bushcraft we learnt how to make a shelter - just starting!

Almost finished result - it just needs covering with branches to make it waterproof - we didn't go that far as we didn't want to destroy the environment.

Bushcraft again - this time being taught how to make a fire.

It was hard work but we all managed to create an ember - the first stage in fire!

More to follow in Kingswood 3!

Kingswood 2014

Finally managed to get onto the wifi system!

Having a fabulous time - weather has been beautiful - lucky us!  Food is good and they give huge portions.  Our dorms are almost new and we have lots of room to create a big mess in.  Regular dorm checks are keeping us from drowning in sweaty socks!  I did find a sock in the corridor but no-one would own up to it being theirs!  One group have created a 'fridge' in their room to keep their drinks bottles cool - a combination of an open window and curtains - very scientific!

I will burn all the photos onto a CD for all of you but in the meantime here is a selection.

Already engrossed - literally before we got onto the A1.

First night - campfire - telling jokes and singing songs - wish we'd brought
marshmallows to toast!
